Called a mountain paradise by locals and visitors alike, Ruidoso is nestled in the Southern Rocky Mountains. Sierra Blanca Peak, towering over the Village, reaches 12,003 feet, and the mild climate is just right for outdoor activities. The surrounding mountains offer tremendous opportunities for camping, hunting, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding and of course, zip lining and skiing. The cool mountain air is a welcome retreat for those from nearby desert areas ....or Dallas :)
Ruidoso is a charming resort town, boasting every possible amenity for visitors, in addition to the surrounding natural beauty. Picturesque shops and art galleries abound and the Hubbard Museum of the American West houses a wonderful collection of artifacts, antique vehicles, and art. Casino Apache and the Billy the Kid Casino entice those feeling lucky, Ruidoso Downs provides racing for those who would rather bet on the ponies.
Whatever the time of year, Ruidoso offers annual events sure to please. To mention just a few, June's Mountain of Blues Festival is followed in July by the Mescalero Apache Ceremonial Dances and the Bear Mountain Stampede, with its parade, rodeo & dances. August offers the Pony Express Trail Ride, September boasts the All America Gun & Western Collectible show, along with the Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally, and October brings Aspenfest weekend and Oktoberfest. With winter, Ski Apache opens, and the Christmas Jubilee takes possession of the convention center.
