Alto is located about nine minutes or 6 miles North of Ruidoso up Highway 48. It’s named due to its elevation of over 7300 feet, also means high. This residential community covers over 1700 acres along the mountain ridges. Alto Lakes was developed by Don Blaugrund and features the Alto Lakes Golf and Country Club, a private 18-hole course with beautiful swimming and tennis facilities, challenging course and dining halls as well as over 1150 homes, 83 townhomes and dozens of vacant lots ready for custom building. The average listing price in Alto is about $250,000 which is also seen its ups and downs over the last 5 to 7 years as has most of the country's real estate markets.
